About Course
This course builds on basic Excel literacy to develop the intermediate skills most used in day-to-day office and reporting work. Learners will move beyond simple sums and averages into logical formulas, lookup functions, PivotTables, data cleaning, conditional formatting, and chart-building — the core toolkit for analysing and presenting workplace data.
Each topic combines a short explanation with a realistic business example (budgets, staff records, sales figures) and a hands-on task you complete in your own workbook. By the end of the course you will be able to build formulas that make decisions (IF, nested IF, AND/OR), pull information from other tables (VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH), clean and organise messy data, summarise large datasets in a PivotTable, and present findings clearly with conditional formatting and charts.
No prior PivotTable or lookup-function experience is assumed, but you should already be comfortable opening Excel, entering data, and using basic formulas such as SUM and AVERAGE.
Recommended resources:
- Microsoft’s official Excel function reference (support.microsoft.com) for quick syntax lookups while you practise
- A blank practice workbook of your own — every lesson task is designed to be redone on your own data
- Excel keyboard shortcuts cheat sheet (Ctrl+; for today’s date, Ctrl+Shift+L for filters, F4 to repeat your last action)
